Frequently Asked Questions
How do I participate?
Pick up a free map in English, Spanish, or Chinese, then visit featured parks, beaches, gardens, and nature spaces across San Francisco. Collect stickers as you explore and create your own adventure—whether that’s discovering a new neighborhood, visiting your local parks, or seeing how many of the 35 destinations you can complete.
How much does it cost?
The map is completely free, and all featured locations are free to visit.
Do I need to complete all 35 adventures?
No. Families are encouraged to explore at their own pace. The goal is to get outside, discover nature, and have fun together. Every family can create their own adventure—whether that’s visiting a new place, exploring all the sites in their neighborhood, or seeing how many locations they can reach by bus, bike, or foot.
How do I earn a free carousel ride?
Collect three stickers and bring them to the LeRoy King Carousel in Yerba Buena Gardens to receive a free ride. You can collect your fourth sticker at the carousel.
Do I have to put the stickers on my map?
No. Stick your stickers wherever you’d like—on your map, a water bottle, a notebook, or anywhere else you collect memories.
How long is the program available?
Families can enjoy the Nature Adventure Map year-round. Stickers will be available through Labor Day, September 7, 2026.
Are the locations open every day?
Hours vary by location. We recommend checking operating hours before your visit. The Randall Museum, Eco Center at Heron’s Head Park, and Glen Canyon Rec Center, where you can collect a sticker, are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Southeast Community Center is the only location not open on the weekend.
Why is nature important for children?
Spending time outdoors helps children stay active, build curiosity, reduce stress, and develop a lifelong connection to the natural world. The Nature Adventure Map makes it easy and fun to discover nature close to home.
