Join the Parks Conservancy for an easy and adventurous walk in the Presidio to learn about and find local fungi!
The walk will start at the Presidio Visitor Center (near the Presidio Transit Center) then head out to walk an easy route of less than 2 miles roundtrip, stopping along the way to learn and explore, and returning to where we started the day. This event is grounded in curiosity, a sense of wonder, and the joy of tuning into nature with all our senses. Local naturalists will join the walk and will provide short and interactive talks about the incredible world of fungi, like how to identify fungi, how the mycelium network works, indigenous and medicinal uses, and a short history of foraging. And we’ll search for fungi specimens throughout the walk, too!
People of all ages and all skill levels (especially beginners!) are welcome. We’ll show you how to use tools to inspect our fungi findings, like macro and hand lenses (which will be provided). You are more than welcome to bring your lunch to have with us after the event. Click here to learn more!
SF Children & Nature is part of the national Cities Connecting Children to Nature (CCCN) initiative and is working to address the disparities in nature access along socioeconomic and racial lines to ensure all children have the opportunity to play, learn and grow in the outdoors.
We're building a network of nature and play advocates.
